Guessing definitions 
The teacher provides brief oral definitions of a person, place,thing, action or whatever; learners write down what they think it is.
Skimming and scanning 
A not-too-long listening text is given, improvised orrecorded. Learners are asked to identify some general topic or information (skimming),or certain limited information (scanning) and note the answer(s). Written questionsinviting brief answers may be provided in advance; or a grid, with certain entriesmissing: or a picture or diagram to be altered or completed.
