live it down
'Do you remember when Nora was going to Turkey and she took the train
to Torquay?'
Poor Nora, it will take a long time for her to live it
down

That is, she will have to live a long time before her family
calms down
and
stops laughing at her.
A humiliation or an embarrassment makes the blood rush up to your face.
And if the embarrassment is acute, your family and friends will happily
remember it forever.
Separable two-word verb
Usually it is a fixed expression.


live off
We sometimes use
off
for the sense of separation.
A farmer lives off his land. That is, he lives by taking the wealth, the good
things off the land. Parasites live off their hosts. Certain kinds of criminals
live off 'immoral earnings', which is to say, off ladies-to-rent. The owner
of a block of flats lives off the rents.
Inseparable two-word verb
No problem.
live together
To live together is for two people to live as if they were married, but
without any official or church ceremony.
Two people who live together also
live with
each other.
Two-word verb without an object
No problem.
live it up
Sometimes
up
is the world of fantasy and imagination.
Living it up means spending lots of money, having parties every night,
driving wonderful cars too fast, having servants to help you with the boring
things of life, and so on.
Fixed expression.
live up to
The TV presenter says, 'And I am very happy to welcome here tonight
the best, the most talented, the funniest and most amazing performer it
has ever been my pleasure to introduce...'
And the performer says, 'How can I live up to that?'
Up
is a high standard. When we live up to a fine reputation, or a high
moral standard, we may find it very difficult.
Three-word verb
No problem.
live with
To live with somebody is to live together as if you were married, but
without any official or church ceremony.
Two people who live with each other
live together

No problem.


look
(look, looked, looked)
What you do with your eyes with intention. It also has a second meaning
of 'appear'.
I looked at Marilyn Monroe. She looked wonderful.
