What is personal information?

• Personal information means information about you. It includes…
• Your name (full name, first name or nickname)
• Your age
• You address
• Your postcode
• Whether you are a boy or girl
• Your telephone number
• Your date of birth
• …and lots of other things too!

What is personal information?

• You should only give out your personal information to people you know well. Even then, you should be careful with which bits of information you tell people.
• Look at the following pictures and decide how much information you would give the person in the picture.
• Think about who you would give your personal information to – do you need to give it to everyone?

• This is your favourite aunt. Which information would you let her know?

• This is a bus driver. Which information would you let him know?

• These are famous sportsmen. Which information would you let them know?

• This is your doctor. Which information would you let him know?

• This is your friend’s grandpa. Which information would you let him know?

• Is it different when you are online?

• Which information, if any, would you give a friend you only chat to online?

• Would you chat to, or answer, emails from people you don’t know? What would you tell them about yourself?

We need to be careful!

• Sometimes you need to be careful with your information
• Use the workbook to answer questions about who you would trust with your information.
• Work in small groups so you can discuss things with others in your class. Do you all have the same opinions and feelings?
