Corporate travelers travel on business or because of their jobs. Limited-service
properties have been successful in attracting corporate travelers who
•
are self-employed and want to control travel costs,
•
work for the government, military, or a nonprofit organization that establishes
per diem levels,
•
must stay in one location for several days,
•
want to stay at or near the specific location of a limited-service hotel, or
•
are attracted by the highway locations of many limited-service hotels.
FRONT OFFICE SEMANTICS
Corporate traveler:
Guest who is traveling on business or because of his or her job.
Per diem:
Fixed dollar amount per day that a traveler will be reimbursed for a hotel room, meals, or both;
the amount is determined by the traveler’s employer and may differ by travel destination.
Leisure travelers are traveling for pleasure or other nonwork-related activities.
Examples include vacationers, family members attending family events, and highway
travelers enroute to and from their destinations. Leisure travelers are an important
part of the customer base of most limited-service hotels. Increasingly, these guests are
loyal to a specific brand because of a frequent-traveler program benefit. As the
Internet becomes more accessible, travelers are using it to book their own room reser-
vations. Price plays an important part in these guests’ decisions about where to stay,
as does location and perception of brand quality.
