These two rate types can result in hotel occupancy levels in excess of 100 percent.
Effective marketing of these rates, especially in areas that generate significant need
for short-term room use (e.g., near airports and train stations), can contribute posi-
tively to a hotel’s RevPar.
Revenue managers and FOMs can create discounts at various percentage or dol-
lar levels for each rate type we have examined. A hotel with multiple room types and
multiple rate plans may have literally hundreds of rate types programmed into its
PMS. In addition, the use of one or more fade rate levels can create dozens more.
