Modified American Plan (MAP): Special rate that includes a specifically identified guest meal (typically
one per day—often breakfast).
All-inclusive (rate): Special rate that typically includes all guest meals and unlimited beverages as well
as the use of specifically identified hotel amenities and services.
Although the American Plan and Modified American Plan are popular in many
resort areas, most full-service American hotels continue to operate under the
European Plan (EP); that is, they provide no meals with the room charge. In
response to the complimentary breakfasts offered by most limited-service hotels,
some full-service hotels have adopted a variation of the MAP and offer guests some
type of partial or full complimentary breakfast.
FRONT OFFICE SEMANTICS European Plan (EP): Room rate that does not include guest meals.
Two other common rate types are the day rate and the half-day rate.
