Section Objective:
Review the need for numerous records (reports) beyond those
applicable to reservations, rooms, and revenue and consider the role of the PMS
in the hotel’s accounting system.
Section Summary:
FOMs can select a wide range of PMS reports in addition to
those that are helpful with reservations, rooms, and revenue management. First,
however, FOMs must consider the types of data relationships that will help them to
make critical business decisions. This task is difficult given the seemingly innu-
merable reports that can be generated. Few, if any, PMSs interface completely
with and can replace a back-office accounting system. Rather, the contributions
that PMSs make related to room and non-room charges complement data about
other hotel financial transactions in the back-office accounting system.
