3. What is your most unforgettable front office moment?
It was the third day of my training program at the front desk for Hyatt Regency Cincinnati, and it hap-
pened to be Red Hot Weekend in the city. On Saturday, there was the Ohio State versus University
of Cincinnati football game. The final baseball games of the season were being played at Cinergy
Field (the Reds’ baseball stadium), and an Oktoberfest event was being held in town.
As a result, the city was extremely busy. Hundreds of people checked into the hotel on Friday
to stay for one night; then a whole new crowd checked in on Saturday. The hotel was sold out
all weekend. The time for Friday night check-out was noon Saturday, and guests with Saturday
evening reservations began arriving Saturday morning. There were no rooms available because
the hotel was full. This meant we had to check out one set of guests and check in another set of
guests in only a few hours.
It was quite incredible the way the staff worked together, and we managed to get the job
done. It was a great experience, and I now realize this was not, by any means, an out-of-the-
ordinary event. However, that was my first experience during a busy weekend as a front desk
agent of a full-service hotel, and it was a moment I will not forget.
