Abstract
Despite the law that requires a higher level of preparedness and organization for an adequate
response to communicable disease, not all health care providers are equally prepared. A recent survey
found that the EMS providers in Slovenia rate their knowledge as satisfactory but that it can be
improved with proper education. The main missing element from their point of view is proper
organization, especially the need to be informed properly about the diagnosis of the patient who is to
be transported. A literature search shows that some units around the world have developed protocols
and are working on improving the safety of the practitioners and patient, but unfortunately there is no
global standard. Our conclusion is that action is needed to secure proper organization and general
protocols for the transport of the contagious patient
