One of the critical diferences between face-to-face presenting 
and presenting online is that you are less able to move around. 
Indeed, most of the time, you will be sitting down. Tat’s not typ-
ical for a presenter. Usually, presentations are made while you are 
standing up. Depending on the technology you are using, you may 
be forced to sit down. In Chapter 2, you will have read that buy-
ing a separate webcam is a good idea. If you do that, you can add 
it to a small desktop tripod. Tat means you can stand up when 
presenting online, which will make you feel more natural. It will 
also give you more energy and improve your voice due to it being 
easier to breathe when standing. If you continue to use the web-
cam attached to your monitor or laptop, you will be forced to sit 
down to present. 
QUICK TIP: Use a stand-alone webcam so that you can mount 
it on a tripod, which will allow you to stand up when presenting. 
Another issue with online presenting is that you have to manage 
technology while trying to talk. Generally, in face-to-face pre-
sentations, your only technology would be a handheld clicker 
to move through the slides. For online presenting, though, you 
have to ensure you can be seen and heard. You need to arrange 
screen sharing, click through the slides, and keep an eye on the
