Unlike PowerPoint, Google Slides does not have an in-built re-
cording system. Instead, you either need to get an add-on for 
Google Slides or use another recording method. A common way 
of doing this is with screen recording software. Tere are plenty 
of programs around that do this. You can fnd a list on the website

tips. Also, there are specifc “lecture capture” systems that work 
with Google Slides to enable you to record your presentation. Two 
of the most popular programs are Panopto (www.panopto.com) 
and Loom (www.loom.com). Both of these have options allowing 
you to record several hours of video free of charge. All you do 
is load your Google Slides presentation, switch to the recording 
software, and then share the presentation. Your presentation is 
then recorded alongside your webcam and microphone. If you 
don’t want to get extra software, you could also export your Goo-
gle Slides presentation into PowerPoint format and record the 
presentation using that program’s recording option.

One issue with many recorded presentations is that there is a pe-
riod at the start when people are checking everything is work-
ing. You can sometimes hear people asking if it is all working or 
muttering to themselves as they set things up. At the end of 
the video, there is frequently a period of time where you can see the 
presenter looking around, clearly clicking through things on the 
screen before fnally hitting the “Stop” button. It all looks rather 
unprofessional. To avoid this, you need to edit the video’s start 
and end to ensure it looks the best you can make it. Remember, 
you are being assessed on these recorded presentations, so it is 
important to make them as good as possible. 
In PowerPoint, you can select the frst slide, click on the vid-
eo image in the corner, and then select “Trim Video” from the 
“Playback” menu. Just play the video and check where it really
