Introduction:
Animal Husbandry is a branch of agriculture which deals with the animals and
concern about the animal starting from its birth, like raising, feeding, providing shelter, feed
arrangements, breeding and propagation of best germplasm available with the livestock
owner for
the purpose of getting milk, meat, fur, and wools in return to maintain the
livelihood of the livestock owner.
In the year 2020, 12

May, The Prime minister of India has proposed an idea to his
countrymen to become an Atmanirbhar Country. The meaning in English is Self resilience.
As per the word it conveys that within the county, all required
and vital materials will be
manufactured, utilised and surpluses would be exported to other countries. Industries or other
sources are welcomed in this country and all material will be prepared here within the
country. India would generate its own necessary material at its homeland and will sell to rest
of the world. With this mission the poverty,
the unemployment, so called the curse of the
nation can be wiped off. The new world can see a emerging developing and a happiest
country. Practically, this Atmanirbhar Bharat mission is the modified version of the Make In
India Project (25
th
Sept. 2014). Contribution from each individual
of the country matters in
this mission. No dependency, no begging for jobs, developing own skill, talent and utilization
of skill and talents for generation of new jobs.
In this mission, the animal husbandry sector can become a role model for the new
income generation. The current per capita availability of milk is 394g,
meat per capita
availability 79 eggs/ year.
History:
The rearing of domestic animals started since many decades ago. Pigs were
domesticated in Mesopotamia around 13000 BC ago, sheep between 11000 and 9000 BC.
Ago, Cattle were domesticated in modern Turkey and Pakistan around 8500 BC ago. Buffalo
were domesticated around 5000 BC ago. Chicken bones been discovered in north-eastern
China which is 5040 BC ago.
South America, the llama and the alpaca had been
domesticated, probably before 3000 BC ago. Domestication of Horses started around 3000
BC ago in the Black Sea and Caspian Sea region. The ancestors started rearing animals for
milk, meat, wool, vehicle, entertainment purpose especially birds.
