Automated Code Generation 
To understand the role and requirement of automated code generation, lets revisit the 
architecture of the problem in thesis. Code generator is framed in red in Figure 3.2.1.

LWM2M supports object data models like IPSO. Data models can exist in popular data 
formats such as JSON, XML, TLV etc., which make them interoperable over multiple web-
transfer protocols. In LWM2M object data models provide semantic interoperability to perform 
device management activities through the LWM2M interfaces. For simplicity, the object 
models from IPSO has been written in human readable XML format.
XMLs (or any other data formats) cannot be compiled to be run on directly 
microcontroller. Most development environments for microcontrollers and resource 
constrained devices require the source files to be in C/C++ to be compiled and downloaded on 
the devices. Hence, the IPSO objects represented in XML must be converted to their equivalent 
C/C++ form first, to be integrated into Wakaama LWM2M implementation in C. With this 
problem, the research and development team at telecom vendor have developed an XML to C 
code converter in Java. As a part of the thesis, I investigated the converter implementation by

designing the test cases with ideal outcomes in mind. The test cases, the expected and obtained 
results with the code converter have been presented in this section.
