Combined Settlement
In some cases, a guest’s account is settled by a combination of accounting transac-
tions. Consider Marc Gitmore, the keynote speaker for a convention at the Altoona
Hotel. The host arranged for his room and taxes to be charged to the master bill.
At check-in, Mr. Gitmore presented his American Express card to establish credit
for any personal incidentals he might charge to the room. At check-out, his folio
shows charges for two in-room movies. Based on the arrangements with the con-
vention host, these charges must be paid by Mr. Gitmore. He states that two movie
