FRONT OFFICE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
FRONT OFFICE SEMANTICS
Room type:
Term used to designate specific guestroom configurations. For example, smoking versus
nonsmoking, king bed versus queen or double beds, and suite versus regular sleeping room. Commonly
abbreviated (e.g., K for king and NS for nonsmoking). Availability of the proper room type is often impor-
tant to guests as they decide whether to rent a room.
Data held in a hotel’s PMS are critical to the decision-making activities required
to maximize RevPar. The PMS helps forecast demand for the hotel’s rooms, allows
FOMs to rapidly adjust room rates, and performs sophisticated mathematical calcu-
lations that result in RevPar maximization strategies.
