Generic term used to indicate all electronic (e)methods of adver-
tising and selling guestrooms. Also known as e-commerce.
E-fridge
Cabinet, usually including both refrigerated and nonrefrigerated sections,
designed with an electronic processing unit that allows a direct interface with the PMS.
Electronic funds transfer (EFT)
Electronic movement of money from one bank account
to another; commonly called EFT.
Emergency report
Information and lists that would be critical in the event of a disaster or
a PMS crash. Sometimes referred to as a down time report because it is most often used
when the PMS is down (i.e., crashed).
Employee handbook
Written policies and procedures related to employment at a hotel.
Sometimes called an employee manual.
Employee-to-room ratio
Number of employees relative to the number of rooms. For
example, a 500-room, luxury, full-service property may have 500 employees: a 1:1
employee-to-room ratio. A 100-room, limited-service property may have only 25 employees:
a 1:4 employee-to-room ratio.
