FRONT OFFICE SEMANTICS Sleep out: Industry term for a room that was paid for and is listed in the PMS as occupied, but in which
the bed was not used.
The morning housekeeper’s report is based on a physical inventory of all guest-
rooms. The report serves several purposes:
•
Corrects any errors made by front office staff relating to check-ins and check-outs
•
Detects sleepers—rooms for which revenues are being posted but which are
actually unoccupied
•
Determines the number of guests in each room to check against the number
for which charges are posted
•
Reports cots and cribs in room for which charges are assessed
•
Enables the night auditor to cross-check the room revenue report to ensure
that every occupied room is accounted for
