THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE The hotel business is first and foremost a people business. This may seem obvious, but
some observers might define hotel business as renting rooms, selling services, and pro-
viding meeting space. Such a definition incorrectly places the emphasis on outputs (the
purposes for which space is used) rather than on inputs (the human resources needed
to produce the products and services). Hoteliers are in the people business—guests and
employees. Earlier chapters in this book emphasized the guest; this chapter emphasizes
the hotel team. The executive committee is the hotel’s top management team, and as
noted in Roadmap 1, this chapter begins with an in-depth look at its functions.
