Srinivasan and Verma
iii
(1993) examined the conceptual matrix comprising three
levels of development measured in terms of aggregation of the human development and
four dimensions of development in terms of economic, socio-psychological, political and
spiritual aspects. The pattern of acquiring various stages of development of the human
being does not normally follow the development pattern as theoretically envisaged –
that is from economic to socio-psychological to political and then to spiritual. It is not
uncommon to find that individuals, communities and countries exhibit different
dimensions of development without having achieved the earlier step.
