Organization of KEMRI 
1) Management System of KEMRI 
KEMRI, which consists of 11 research centres focused on certain specific areas, is the 
largest medical research institute in Kenya.     
KEMRI is governed by a Board of Management appointed by the Minister that is for 
the time being responsible for research.  The Board consists of a Chairman, six 
appointed members, and representatives from various government Ministries, 
Departments and Agencies.    The Board is responsible for all the policy matters of the 
Institute.   
There are a number of standing committees of the Board that perform some specialised 
functions shown in Table 5.1:
