Continuous and comprehensive evaluation Continuous and comprehensive evaluation is a very meaningful kind of evaluation.
Such evaluation requires lot of time and ability to maintain proper records by the
teacher .. If the evaluation system simply increases stress on children by reducing all
their activities into items for assessment, then the purpose of education is simply
defeated. There is a need to evolve and maintain credibility in assessment so that they
perform their function of providing feedback in a constructive manner.
Assessment of the Secondary Students Assessment of secondary students should be based more on tests, examinations and
project reports, along with self-assessment. This would assist them by pointing out
the areas of study that they need to focus on, and also help them by providing a basis
for further choices that they make regarding what to study thereafter.
Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation has been mentioned in RTE 2009 and
suggests that In order to impart quality education and help children develop
holistically, it is important to know their learning progress in such a manner through
CCE that it helps to find out the change in a child’s learning and development over a
period of time. It allow children to assess themselves through reflection, seeking
ways to regulate and improve learning by herself/himself and find out to what extent
curricular expectations and learning outcomes have been achieved. This will regulate
teaching-learning processes in the classroom and bridge the gaps in their learning and
development. Proper CCE record will encourage each child to be confident of
learning by doing away with the fear of assessment and provide continuous support to
ensure every child’s learning and development.
HOLISTIC REPORT CARD VERUS SKILL PASSBOOK Skill Passbook School Education Department of Haryana launched Skill Passbook and Catch
up Program to improve the assessment and evaluation system. The aim of this
program was to prepare children for new classes in the beginning of the new session
by way of interesting and activity-oriented informal learning. The learning abilities of
the students in Hindi, English and Mathematics were mentioned in the passbook
drawing on the lessons in the textbook.
Holistic Report Card as per NEP 2020
Learning takes place in a holistic manner. It has been seen that during
elementary stage children learn better while interacting with others or informally
sharing what they are learning with others. Learning is a continuous, spiral and
holistic process. So, these aspects are equally relevant to assessment. The holistic
progress card will form an important link between home and school and will be
accompanied by parent-teacher meetings in order to actively involve parents in their
children’s holistic education and development. The progress card would also provide
teachers and parents with valuable information on how to support each student in and
out of the classroom.
For students to be able to choose for themselves, make mistakes, and reflect on
and learn from their own decisions, their teachers, parents need to Schools must
remember that students enroll to learn, not to be graded. And that their primary job is
to promote independent, critical thinking among the students.
