How did the class do?
When I do this exercise I’m fascinated by the sheer range of jokes that I get back
from just offering my class a few sentences. I’m actually convinced that I could
give a group any sentence and tell them there is a joke there and they would
come up with something, because they trust that a joke is there. Also, how often
do you spend time staring at one sentence, looking at every connotation? As I
usually put people in groups of four so there’s all that brain power going over
just a few words. It’s not surprising that for the one sentence I get three or four
jokes back.
Here’s what I got back from my class, and underneath is the joke that was
originally broadcast. The point of the exercise is not to get it ‘right,’ it’s just to
get you into that way of thinking, and show you how professional programmes
work.
