Familiar words

It is important when you are conducting any form of qualitative research

that you use words that the respondents will be familiar with. It is easy to

forget that many words that appear in your literature review often involve

jargon and terms that the woman or man in the street will not recognise, and

you will have to frame the questions in language that they understand. It is

also dangerous to assume that managers understand the academic terms

associated with their jobs since this is not always the case, in my

experience. The key here is to pilot the interview questions before you go

ahead.
