Introduction
Interviewer A stated the introduction which was printed on the
questionnaire. As such, she referred to the commissioning organisation
which is good for public relations, and indicated that the responses would
be confidential and how long the interview would take. B did not follow the
instructions but made up his own introduction which, whilst he may have
felt it was quicker and more chatty, left the potential respondent without
appropriate information on the basis of which to decide whether to take part
in the survey or not. Because it was not the same as A and deviated from
the instructions, there may well have been differences in the response rates
between A and B which could have a bearing on the sampling through
interviewer bias.
