In formal written styles, once may occur with clausal ellipsis:

Once occurs in many fixed expressions. Most of these are expressions of time.

Some common examples are:

at once (immediately, simultaneously)

all at once (suddenly)

once upon a time (used at the beginning of traditional stories)
