Phraseological units mainly 
represent character and action. This means that they are 
grammatically a group of words that signify or act. 
Phraseological units of the verb family: me‘dasiga 
tegmoq, holdan toymoq, og‘ziga talqon solmoq; to be on the 
beam, to nose out; 
Phraseological units belonging to the category of 
adjectives: ko‘ngli bo‘sh, dili siyoh; loose as a goose, dull as 
lead; 
Phraseological units belonging to the adverb family: 
ipidan – ignasigacha, ikki dunyoda ham; in the soup, like a 
dog with two tails; 
There are also prepositional phraseological units in 
English: in the course of, on the stroke of. 
Phraseological units in our linguistics are not 
classified according to a particular word group and their 
grammatical features are not sufficiently studied. 
Phraseological units, like lexical units, are also 
classified in terms of their level of use. Accordingly, there are 
common phraseological units (holdan toymoq, ro‘yobga 
chiqmoq; to kick the bucket, to agree like cats and dogs) and 
phraseological units with limited use. The phraseological unit, 
the use of which is limited, also has certain differences with 
the period of use (obsolete and contemporary) and the scope 
(dialectal, scientific, artistic discourse) [12, 156]; 
─ obsolete phraseological units: alifni kaltak demoq, 
kallasini xam qilib; be born with a caul, moisten one‘s clay; 
─ dialectal phraseological units: alag‘da bo‘lmoq, 
halak bo‘lmoq; to play the advantages over somebody, mend 
like sour ale in summer; 
─ scientific phraseological units: imkoniyatlar doirasi, 
chambarchas bog‘lamoq; civil list, general ticket; 
─ fictional phraseological units: boshida yong‘oq 
chaqmoq, qildan qiyiq axtarmoq; the afternoon of life, strike 
while the iron is hot; 
─ phraseological unit of speech: arpasini xom o‘rmoq, 
boshi ochiq; make a long arm, to be on somebody‘s back. 
Most of the phraseological units are specific to 
fictional and colloquial speech. 
The phraseological unit consists of a two-sided 
linguistic unit, a dialectical unit of form and content. The 
formal side of a phraseological unit is the word (not the 
lexeme). Their content is phraseological. Phraseological 
meaning is very complex, some are denotative, as in lexemes, 
while others have only grammatical meaning. For example, a
