ERNEST HEMINGWAY
A well-known American writer Ernest Miller Hemingway (1899-1963) was a man of great literary talent, and he was also an active tighter against fascism and war.
Hemingway was born in 1899 m Oak Park, then a small town near Chicago. When a boy, he went In for sports and became a good football player and boxer. He also spent mach tame in. the country together with his father, who taught him to love and understand nature. Hemingway be­came fond of reading very early. He read a lot and he himself tried to write short stories for the school's newspaper. One of his early stories was "The Killers."
When Hemingway left school, he took a job as a reporter on the newspaper "Kansas City Star." During that time he worked hard and began to use simple words and short sen­tences in his works.
In 1918, during World War I, Hemingway went to Italy. He tried to save the life of soldiers. He had to spent, some. months in a hospital in Milan.
During the war in Spain, Hemingway was among the soldiers of International Brigades. When German fascists in­vaded our country he addressed a telegram in which he expressed that he was ca our side. At that time he lived in Cuba. In 1944 he went to Britain as a war correspondent and finished the war as a soldier, taking an active part in the struggle against fascism.
After the war he returned to Cuba and from that time on, 'he lived in this country. There Hemingway wrote his masterpiece "The Old Man and the Sea", for which he was' awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1954.
