Venezuela is the most oil-rich country in the modern world. According to updated statistics, in 2016, its oil reserves will exceed 297 million barrels, which is about 20 percent of the world's total oil reserves. Saudi Arabia is in second place with a slight difference: its reserves account for 18 percent of the world’s total.
