Hanover, 20 May 2010. Continental AG is an Official Sponsor of the 2010 FIFA World CupTM in South Africa and is contributing €5,000 to the “Go Ahead!” aid organization with its kickHIV!” project. The funds will be used for the kickHIV! campaign days throughout Germany from 28 to 30 May 2010, when charitable events in all of Germany will raise money for an educational AIDS project in South Africa. “Go Ahead! would like to take advantage of the increased focus on Southern Africa with the 2010 FIFA World CupTM to draw attention to the AIDS problem amongst young South Africans. In Port Elizabeth, South Africa, we have a tire plant with more than 1,600 employees. With this in mind, we are pleased to help this project link HIV education with football, thus making as many persons as possible aware of the problem,” says Continental spokesman Alexander Lührs. Go Ahead! thus calls upon all German citizens to put on creative and unusual events to collect money for the charitable project on these days.
100% of the donations will go directly to a local project in South Africa which uses football as a medium for AIDS education. The German national players Philipp Lahm and Mesut Özil are supporting the kickHIV! campaign days as ambassadors. National player Lahm comments on kickHIV: “Through the sport of football, you can reach young persons around the world and educate them about AIDS and AIDS prevention.” The campaign weekend the end of May is just the kickoff. Under the motto kickHIV!, numerous events will be held throughout Germany during the entire World Cup period until mid-July. Go Ahead! has created a kickHIV! campaign manual with information about how interested persons can organize their own events. In addition there is website that gives individual groups the possibility to share ideas and information about the campaign days (www.kickHIV.de).

The Go Ahead! aid organisation was founded in 2007 and currently has more than 420 members. Young persons in particular have become involved in Go Ahead!, for instance in local groups at ten universities in Germany. The goal is to give children and youth in Southern Africa better chances for the future through education, whereby only local and innovative organisations are supported.
