Objective
The objective of the PGDFM (FAMILY MED.)
programme is to build the capacity of GPs and enable
them to manage more cases so that referral becomes
less necessary - hence the mo o: 'Refer less, Resolve
more'. The ultimate beneficiaries of the programme
will be patients from the financially weaker sections
of the population, especially those from rural areas.
Thus, the programme leads to a win-win situation for
the patients and the GPs, as the former find a one-
window solution, while the la er (who would have
become multi-competent) find
a much larger scope
for their practice.
Eligibility Criteria
• Valid MBBS Degree
• Indians working abroad may also apply
• Women candidates will be given preference
• Candidates working in rural areas will be given
preference
Duration
This is a two-year 'blended learning course' involving
both self-learning, as well as a hands-on component
in the form of contact programmes
Maximum no. of seats:
300 per year
Contact programme:
Three contact programmes (each 11 days duration)
consist of both online and onsite teaching
methodology. The contact programs are of hybrid
nature: both online and onsite face to face sessions
will be conducted. The onsite (face to face) session
will be held, subject to the relaxation of travel and
other corona pandemic related regulations stipulated
by the government and our institute (CMC)
periodically.

Post Graduate Diploma in Geriatrics
(PGDG)
India is in a phase of demographic transition and the
geriatric population is burgeoning. Care of the elderly
in need of medical a ention is often fragmented
among multiple “specialists”, as these patients have
multiple co-morbidities and psychosocial issues.
Therefore, there is an urgent need to produce
physicians who not only understand the unique
health problems in the elderly, but possess a
repertoire of clinical competencies to deal with them.
Geriatrics is the only “speciality” which knits these
myriad physical,
psychosocial, financial and
emotional problems in each individual together into a
tapestry, which still remains beautiful. With inputs
from Allied Health and Nursing faculty, the doctor is
able to help the elderly in the autumn of their lives.

2. All candidates must possess a valid MCI/ State
Medical Council registration

Bioethics- Distance Learning Programme
With the development of modern medicine and overt
technological advancements,
unprecedented ethical
challenges have been emerging. While there seems to
be be er treatment options with the latest
technologies, over the years, unethical medical
practices have been on the increase, contributing to
commercialization of clinical practice and bringing
disrepute to the medical profession. Medical practice
has almost become a technocracy, distancing from the
foundational values and principles of clinical
practice. In this context, we see a great need to offer a
Post Graduate Diploma in Christian Bioethics,
upholding dignity of all human beings and
sacredness of human life in the Spirit of Jesus Christ.
This course is being jointly offered by the Christian
Medical College Vellore (CMC)

Programme structure and teaching methodology
This two year distance learning course comprises of a
learner centred problem solving curriculum with
nine interactive modules and a capstone project will
also be part of the course, requiring students to utilize
