In 1983, the State Department of Education mandated that all public schools in New Jersey develop and implement a course of study dealing with family life.

Neptune City School complied with the State and established a Family Life Curriculum which began in September 1983. The goal of this program is to prepare the children to develop into useful, productive and responsible adults with an emphasis on self-awareness as a person and respect of self and others.
The Family Life Education program is presented through our health classes and is age appropriate. It helps develop an understanding of the physical, emotional, social, economic, and psychological aspects of interpersonal relationships; the physiological, psychological, and cultural foundations of human development, sexuality, and reproduction at various states of growth; and the opportunity for students to acquire knowledge which will support the development of responsible personal behavior.

Additional topics to be covered in the curriculum include family living and peer relationships.

State regulations provide for an excusal policy regarding the above sections of the curriculum based on parental grounds of conscience.
