Description:
Physical education is an integral part of the total education program and contributes to the development of the individual through the natural medium of physical activity and human movement. The physical education experience should be a positive motivating force that will help develop a lifestyle of physical activity. Each student will have the opportunity to participate in sport, and components of overall fitness that can be enjoyed now and in the future.
Goals:
1. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the principles of personal fitness.
2. Students will actively participate in physical activity and show improvement in physical fitness and skills.
3. Students will demonstrate proper safety techniques.
4. Students will display good sportsmanship and fair play.
5. Students will demonstrate knowledge of rules and strategies through proper play and written exams.
6. Students will promote respect and acceptance of self and others.
7. Students will display positive social skills.
8. Students will demonstrate positive expression and communication.
9. Students will adequately complete physical fitness testing each semester.

Requirements:

Proper Dress: Proper dress consists of athletic shoes, shorts or sweat pants, t-shirt, long sleeved shirt, or sweat shirt.

Prohibited clothing: Boots, open toe shoes or sandals, shoes which cannot be tied, jean material, khaki material, button up shirts, revealing tank tops, SPANDEX.

Complete person: someone who IS dressed properly for class
-
Non-complete person: someone who is NOT properly dressed for class.

Procedure for Non-complete individuals: Enter the locker room, inform the teacher you are Non-complete for the day’s class, take a written assignment, sit on the benches in the locker room and await instruction.

Sleeping or laying down in the bleachers will result in referral to the office.

NO MUSIC (EVER) /LAPTOPS/ELECTRONICS (UNLESS USING TO WORK) ON STAGE

Participation: All students will be expected to give their best effort. (NO EXCEPTIONS FOR HEALTHY ATHLETES)

Failure to dress or participate in physical education may result in loss of eligibility for any extra-curricular activity.

Safety
-
Safety is a must. Unsafe individuals will be removed from the activity.

Attendance: Missed classes must be made up
-
Make Ups: Use the HPE make up form (located on the HPE website or in your locker room). MUST BE SIGNED BY PARENT, GUARDIAN, OR COACH.

7 days to make up missed work. After 7 days it becomes a 0/15 permanently.

Illness/Injury: You may:
-
Present a parent note. No more than 2 parent notes in a row will be accepted. After two you must receive a note from the Doctor. Athletes may receive a note from the athletic trainer. (The teacher may also accept verbal proof from the trainer)

MUSIC:
-
ACCEPTABLE IN THE WEIGHTROOM OR DURING A RUN ONLY. MUSIC WILL NOT BE PERMITTED AT ANY OTHER TIME.

MUSIC PLAYED IN CLASS WILL BE AT THE DISCRETION OF THE TEACHER.

*Electronic Devices: pg. 38-39 of student handbook: Students are encouraged not to bring electronic devices to school. Students are prohibited from having, in visual range, cellular phones, and any electronic device that has the capability of taking photographs, record video, or audio during the school day. All Electronic devices that meet these criteria will be confiscated and sent to the office.

USE OF THE FITNESS CENTER: (11th and 12th grade students only). On a given day students may be given the option to use the fitness center instead of the class activity for the day. If a student decides to use the fitness center, exercise will be their activity for the day. A student may not use the fitness center for half of the class and then join the activity. Proper documentation of the exercises performed is required. STUDENTS WHO MISUSE THE FITNESS CENTER WILL BE REMOVED.

Evaluation: Level l evaluation: (70 %)

15 point system: 5 for the warm up, 5 for the fitness activity, 5 for the game of the day.

Points will be deducted base on the following, but are not limited to:

Fitness activities:

Cardio:

Up to 2 cardio activities per week (depending on A and B days)

BIKE PASS: You will be issued one bike pass per semester. You may exchange this for use of cardio equipment.

Personal Fitness:

At least once per week. (depending on A and B days)

(11th and 12th only) Students will be required to complete a fitness log documenting their exercises, weights, sets, and repetitions or time on cardio equipment.

Evaluation: Level ll evaluations: (30%)

Pick days and rule evaluations:

Rule evaluation 1- (first day of game play) - 5 points,

Rule evaluation 2-(final day of game play)-10 points.

Pick days-15 points. (5 warm up, 10 chosen activity)

Warm up leader- 13 Points.

Fitness Portfolio: (11th &12th grade only) Students will be required to have a one inch binder that will keep exercise logs. These portfolios will be graded at the end of the semester and can be kept in the locker room on the book shelves. Each page will be worth a specified number of points for your mid-term and final exam.

Goal Essay: All students will be required to complete an essay outlining their fitness goals at the beginning of the semester. Students will revisit this essay at the end of the year and comment on their progress. This will be worth up to 20 points.

Skill Descriptions: Skill descriptions will be completed at predetermined times throughout the semester. They will be worth up to 10 points each.

Activities and Content: Listed below are the activities/games and content covered in physical education. Due to unforeseeable circumstances some of these activities/games may not be reached.

Team Games: Badminton, Basketball, Floor Hockey, Gatorball, Handball, Lacrosse, Pickleball, Soccer, Softball, Whiffleball, Kickball, Matball, Speedball, Yackleball, Combat Sports (Rhinoball, Powerball, Kingpin, Castleball, Prisonball) Volleyball, Backyard games.

Physical Fitness: Strength training, Cardio training, and Circuit training.

Special Information:

PE/PE- Also known as students who have more than one physical education class during one semester. You are required to complete everything in each class. You will complete up to four cardio activities each week, and up to four personal fitness workouts each week.
