INTRODUCTION
The term irony is derived from the Greek iron (dissembler), and denotes that the appearance of thing differs from their reality, whether in terms of meanings, situation, or action. That is, it is ironical when there is a difference between what is spoken and what meant. What is thought about a situation and what actually the case is; or what is intended by actions and what is their actual outcome. In stable irony there is a constant.
The subject matter of this course paper is the study Irony as a stylistic in English and Uzbek literature, its function and important in the English colloquial and literary speech.
The object of the course paper is that the theoretical and practical books on Stylistics (especially by Arnold T.S., Galperin I.R, Matthews P.T., Kukhareko;) research works by our linguists done on the field of Stylistics; literary works of different type to gather examples have been served.
The actuality of this course work is directed to define the necessity of language learning on the base of stylistic devices and expressive means in the English language.
The aim of our course paper is the linguistic analysis of Irony as a lexical stylistic device and to point out the ways of expressing irony in the English and Uzbek language.
The aim of our course paper puts forward a lot of tasks:
–– to study stylistics as a science of linguistics;
–– to study stylistic devices and their types;
–– to study specific features of stylistic devices;
–– to study Irony as a stylistic device;
–– to study structural- semantic features of Irony.
