By the end of the lesson, students will be better able to…

1 to explore their own experiences with online activities, build a common vocabulary of online-related terminology and identify purposes and methods of online interactions from the user’s perspective.

By the end of the lesson, students will have…

  • 1. an understanding of what the Internet is, its purpose and function for users.

  • 2. a clear online lexicon and a working understanding of online-related vocabulary.



Anticipated difficulties:



  1. Students can have difficulty to find the meaning of the words in context




  1. It is difficult for students to have a mutual understanding in a class

Write the word “INTERNET” on the board and draw a circle around it. Prompt students for words/phrases that come to mind when they think about the Internet. Write a few on the board branching off of the circle. Once the mind-map is complete, have a discussion about the words/phrases on the board. Review the words with the class (pronunciation, meaning, etc), and eventually come up with a working definition of what the Internet is.

Students should copy the initial map from the board onto their own papers. In pairs or small groups, students work together to continue adding to their own mind-maps for 5 minutes. Students can either call out answers or students can come to the board and write in their groups’ contributions.

To interest the students about the topic they will be shown some photos and they will predict the word.

Teacher hands out some papers with vocabulary. They must match them with definitions, after translating them in pairs.

Students will learn the meaning of the vocabulary and try to make some sentences on their notebook.

The teacher asks them to read the text “ WWW’ and underline the vocabularies and give the core meaning of the text. Then she/ he gives the true/ false/ not given exercise related to the text. After finishing the teacher helps and checks their answers.

After that, they will read the text, discuss with groups. Underline new vocabulary. They will do true/ false/ not given activity on their own. They will check and discuss together.,

To make students to practise their vocabulary knowledge

Teacher makes her students do the “ Gap fill” and multiple choice, Punctuate the text activity without looking the text. They should put the words into the blank.

Students will do this activity by themselves. After that they will exchange their answers with other students and evaluate each other

To introduce students with listening text and how to do it.

Put students in small groups.
Teacher will distribute the handouts to each group. For example: they will do multiple choice test related to the topic internet. ( material 6).

2. How many websites did the article say was on the World Wide Web?

5. What will we fail if we give up on the Web?
6. How many concerns did Sir Tim Berners-Lee have?
7. What did Sir Tim describe the Web as a mirror of?
8. What did Sir Tim say social media spread?
9. What have the past few years seen a rise in?
10. What did Sir Tim want us to fight for?

Teacher observes and checks the class.



Students will use language more confidently and they can answer the questions with confidence using some new vocabulary.
