Introduction
American English has already become the dominant language among other
international languages that have been selected as the official languages of the United
Nations Organization. Although the number of speakers of this language as a native
or second and foreign language is less than that of the total speakers of the Chinese
language, American English is still more popular and more widely-used all over the
world in terms of politics, business, culture, and communication.
Current paper analyzes the evolution of this language and the reasons behind
its dominancy and popularity as a multinational language. It is not a secret that
American English is considered as a variety of English that is the official language of
Great Britain. However, many scientists believe that American English can be
referred as an independent, separate language. It is interesting to note that, the

discussions on this issue are still ongoing and the final verdict has not been presented yet.
American English can also be called United States English or U.S English as it is mostly spoken in the United States of America. This language is native to those people who are living in the U.S. There is no need to mention that American English is the most influential form of English that is used globally. American English contains its own form of pronunciation, lexical resource, grammar and spelling that is different from other varieties of the English language. It should not be presumed that American English contains one dominant mainstream in terms of pronunciation. This is due to the fact that the sound system of American English is still evolving, as a result some of the local accents are fading away with the development of new regional accents.
The evolution of American English
The history of the American language includes only four centuries. During this period, American English has not even managed to become a separate language and is still rightfully considered a variant of English. Four centuries is quite a little compared to the history of British English, which began fifteen centuries ago with the arrival of the Anglo-Saxons in the British Isles. But it is not just that. American English began to develop after the invention of printing: books in English contributed to the slow development of American English in a new place. In addition, the US has always maintained close ties with the UK, so their languages have not diverged.
There is a conception that if America had been colonized several centuries earlier, American English would have turned into a new language - just as French separated from Italian. [1] But in the conditions of the age of Enlightenment, this was no longer possible. Nevertheless, on the new continent, English still took a different path and acquired many differences from the British dialect.
Like the history of any language, the history of American English is closely connected with the actual history of the development of the United States of America. Linguists distinguish two periods in the development of American English [2]:
