Rhythm in verse as a stylistic device interprets the beauty of nature, its stillness, 
helps to intensify the emotions, especially used in music, dance and poetry. 
Task 1. Single out the functions of rhythm in the following extracts:

Proverbs and Sayings 
 
e.g.: “Better late than never.”
 
“Out of sight, out of mind.”

They are usually short familiar epigrammatic sayings, expressive and 
have generalized meaning. They are also image bearing. They express the 
wisdom of the people and never lose their freshness and vigour.

Proverbs have much in common with set expressions because their 
lexical components are also constant, their meaning is traditional and 
mostly figurative, and they are introduced into speech ready-made.
