  (2001)  examined  the  intra-state  disparities  in  human 

development  across  districts  of  Karnataka  and  also  human  development  position  of 

Karnataka state in the Indian context.  The author concluded that glaring disparities in 

human  development  were  found  between  the  districts  in  Karnataka.  Bangalore  and 

Kodagu enjoyed high human development on one hand, on the other Raichur has worst 

performance  in  terms  of  human  development  in  the  state.  In  order  to  improve  the 

human  capabilities  and  reduce  intra  district  disparities  in  human  development  in 

Karnataka  state  active  and  effective  government  interventions  are  necessary.
