Pilotstudy

Before attempting a full scale data collection and analysis, I conducted a pilotstudy to test my methodology.As a part of my pilot study, I found the word киллep‘hired professional killer’ in several dictionaries. Then I found the Russian counterpart:y6ийцa ‘killer’.I then searched the Russian National Corpus and found that the mostcommonadjectivesassociatedwithкиллepwerehaeмhый‘hired’(4.72%),пpeдпoлaгaeмый ‘supposed’ (3.15%) and пpoфeccиohaльhый ‘professional’ (8.66%).IthensearchedforthefrequencyofoccurrenceofeachoftheseadjectiveswiththeRussian counterpart word y6ийцa: haeмhый ‘hired’ (17%), пpeдпoлaгaeмый ‘supposed’(1.86%) and пpoфeccиohaльhый ‘professional’ (3.57%).During the data collection Ifound two additional adjectives that also frequently modify the Russian counterpart wordy6ийцa‘killer’:cepийhый‘serial’(4.86%)andxлaдhoкpobhый‘cold-blooded’(1.57%).I then searched one more time for the occurrences of these two adjectives withtheEnglishloanwordкиллep:cepийhый‘serial’(0%)andxлaдhoкpobhый‘cold-blooded’(0.79%).Theresultofthedatacollectionis summarizedin Table1 and2.
