CONCLUSION
While many tourism destinations have been through different types of crises and disasters, there are few
that parallel the effect that Hurricane Katrina has had on the city of New Orleans. However, the findings of this
study show that there is tremendous support for tourism planning and development from young people who are the
potential leaders in the future. Despite a reduction in the perceived positive opinion of the tourism industry in New
Orleans after Katrina, Generation Y residents indicated that New Orleans is ready to welcome back tourists to the
city and that it was not necessary to restrict tourism until the recovery is complete.
