Introduction

The magic of numbers in the Mediterranean civilization led to the doctrine of the four temperaments. The word "temperament" was coined by the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates.

Temperament (Lat. temperamentum — "proper correlation of parts" — - a stable combination of individual personality traits associated with dynamic, rather than substantive aspects of activity. Temperament is the basis of character development; in general, from a physiological point of view, temperament is a type of higher nervous activity of a person.
Temperament is an individual and peculiar property of the psyche that reflects the dynamics of a person's mental activity, and manifests itself regardless of its goals, motives and content. Temperament changes little during life, and, in fact, it is not even temperament that changes, but the psyche, and temperament is always stable.
Hippocrates explained temperament as a characteristic of behavior by the predominance of one of the "vital juices" (four elements)in the body:
1) The predominance of yellow bile makes a person impulsive, "hot" - choleric.
2) The predominance of lymph makes a person calm and slow-phlegmatic.
3) The predominance of blood makes a person mobile and cheerful-sanguine.
4) The predominance of black bile makes a person sad and fearful-melancholic.
A description of the characteristics of different temperaments can help you understand a person's temperament traits if they are clearly expressed, but people with pronounced features of a certain temperament are not so common, most often people have mixed temperaments in various combinations. But the predominance of features of any type of temperament makes it possible to attribute a person's temperament to one or another type: choleric, phlegmatic, sanguine or melancholic. Therefore, these types of temperament will be considered further.
