 Operational Risks in Financial Organizations 

Within  financial organizations operational risk can  be defined as “the entire process of polices, 

procedure,  expertise  and  systems  that  an  institution  needs  in  order  to  manage  all  the  risks 

resulting from its financial transactions” (Hussain, 2000).  

According to Elke (2003, pp. 927), operational risks related to information security in financial 

organizations have been divided into two main categories: 

  Internal Risks 

  External Risks 

Internal Risks 

Internal risks are those risks which affect the organization from inside and further sub-divided 

into three categories. 

  System Risks 

  Process Risks 

  Personal Risks
