Introduction
English literature occupies a significant place in the history of modern literature. This literature is devoted to world civilization by Geoffrey Chaucer, William Shakespeare, John Milton, Daniel Defoe, Robert Burns, George Byron, Walter Scott, Charles Dickens, Robert Stevenson, May Reed, Oscar Wilde, Bernard Shaw, Thomas Eliot, Evelyn Waugh, James Joyce. The above-mentioned writers are familiar to literature lovers of the world. Their works and works are being translated into different languages, as well as Uzbek in higher educational institutions, lyceums and colleges of our Republic.
Geoffrey Chaucer is today one of the most highly regarded English poets, but during his lifetime his writing was largely subsidiary to his role in public affairs in 14th-century England. He undertook diplomatic missions to the European continent for several kings, and he served as a clerk for the maintenance of royal buildings.
Geoffrey Chaucer is considered one of the initial great English poets. He is the author of such works as The Parlement of Foules, Troilus and Criseyde, and The Canterbury Tales. Humorous and profound, his writings show him to be an acute observer of his time with a deft command of many literary genres. He was an English poet and writer, one of the greatest English poets of the Middle Ages, is best known for The Canterbury Tales. He was called the "father of English literature" or alternatively the "father of English poetry." He was the initial author to be buried in a place called Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey in London. Chaucer is also known as a philosopher and astronomer, and wrote a treatise on the Astrolabe for his ten-year-old son, Lewis. He also served in the civil service as a bureaucrat, a palace official, a diplomat, and a member of parliament, the greatest poet of the Middle English period, he was also a public servant who worked as a soldier, diplomat, comptroller of customs, justice of the peace, clerk of works and a forest official – so his life is well denoted in surviving documents. His reading orientations were not so stable: he tended to evaluate and re-evaluate many writers during his long life. Chaucer was well connected at the royal court.
