Kurt Wachholz became Chairperson of the Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) District Board in July 2015 after serving three years on the board. Prior to his appointment as an MATC District Board Member, he spent over 38 years in Education with his career culminating as the Superintendent of the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District. During the time under Kurt’s leadership the West Allis School District was recognized for 3 National Blue Ribbon School Nominations (2 awarded), 37 Wisconsin Schools of Recognition, Newsweek, New York Times Top High Schools amongst other awards and recognitions. Kurt has also received the West Allis Chamber of Commerce Crystal Apple Award, the Business Journal Award, and the Wisconsin School District Administrators Association State Award Recognition.

During his tenure on the MATC District Board he has and continues to serve on the Milwaukee Public Television (PTV); Finance, Personnel & Operations (FPO) and the Educational Services & Students Success (ESSS) Committees where he has been a strong advocate for airing community-based & children’s programming; creating Career Pathways throughout all disciplines and expanding workforce development initiatives; and college enrollment growth that focuses on dual enrollment students from high school through adult creating the financial base necessary for a vibrant comprehensive college program that provides for life-long learning and careers with sustainable wages for MATC students.

As chairperson of the MATC District Board, Kurt Wachholz continues his deep commitment to education by providing key support to one of the college’s most exciting initiatives, the MATC Promise, which will help make the dream of college a reality for eligible high school seniors. Kurt values the potential impact this initiative and Milwaukee Area Technical College can have in reducing poverty in one of the most economically challenged regions of the country.
