Abstract 

Photography has a history that dates back to prehistoric times when people drew and scraped 

cave walls with clay paints to share, tell or remember what they saw and experienced with others. 

The first truly photograph in history is the heliography made by Joseph Nicephore Niepce in 1827 

and it’s been in our lives for over 190 years. Photography started in our country shortly after the first 

photograph, starting from the 1850s.  

Abdulhamid  II  said  that  the  photo  tells  us  more  than  the  hundreds  of  pages  of  reports. 

Approximately 800 photo albums remained from him and they are exhibited in the library of Istanbul 

University. 

Photography associations in Turkey started with the establishment of the Turkish Amateur 

Photography Club (TAFK) in Ankara in 1950. The TAFK aims to encourage photography and film 

production in Turkey and to prepare opportunities for growing up and maturing for its enthusiasts. 

While abroad, he aimed to promote Turkey and Turkish photography. There are more than a hundred 

photographic societies in Turkey. In Giresun province, there are two photographic societies named 

Giresun  Photographic  Art  Association  (GIFOD)  founded  in  2001  and  Giresun  Traveler 

Photographers Association (GEZFOD) founded in 2011. These two photographic associations work 

to increase the promotion and attractiveness of the province through their activities. In this study, the 

activities  of  GEZFOD  were  examined  and  their  contribution  to  the  tourism  attractiveness  and 

promotion of the region was evaluated. In this context, photography activities organized by GEZFOD 

were investigated and interviews were conducted with association officials. The contribution of their 

activities to the tourism attractiveness of Giresun province was examined. GEZFOD has organized 

five  photo  marathons  to  date.  Thanks  to  these  photo  marathons,  hundreds  of  national  and 

international  nature-friendly  photographers  came  to  Giresun.  GEZFOD  photographed  the  most 

beautiful  places  and  met  thousands  of  followers.  GEZFOD;  municipalities,  The  42th  Chamber  of 

Pharmacists  has  supported  and  contributed  to  photography  competitions  organized  by  public 

institutions  and  organizations  such  as  Giresun  Mercantile  Exchange  and  other  associations. 

GEZFOD makes maximum efforts with its members to contribute to the promotion of the province 

at home and abroad.
