The Kalyan minaret is a symbol of Bukhara; the most and one of the oldest architectural monuments of the city; one of the most prominent institutions of its kind in the Muslim East.

The minaret of the early Middle Ages, which makes up a single architectural ensemble with the Kalyan Mosque, Miri Arab Madrasah and Emir Alim Khan, along with other monuments of the historical center of Bukhara, is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
