examinations, a copy of the report should be kept 
until the next thorough examination is made or for two 
years (whichever is the longer). If the report shows 
that a defect exists, which could lead to an existing or 
imminent risk of serious personal injury, a copy of the 
report must be sent, by the person making the thorough 
examination, to the appropriate enforcing authority. 
The equipment should be inspected at suitable 
intervals between thorough examinations. The frequency 
and the extent of the inspection is determined by the 
level of risk presented by the lifting equipment. A report 
or record should be made of the inspection which should 
be kept until the next inspection. Unless stated otherwise, 
lifts and hoists should be inspected every week.
