Question: have you ever acted as a tutor? When was it? Remember

  1. The teacher as an investigator.

This role is important for the teacher himself/herself in developing their knowledge and experience. The best way to do this is by investigating what is going on in the class.

The teacher may observe what method goes well and what does not. Tries to find out new ways of organizing teaching process or to evaluate new technologies.



Question: What did you do as an investigator?

If you what t correct your students attitude to error correction. Design a short questionnaire, discuss the results with your collogues.



Mind: If you don’t investigate efficiency of the new methods, if you don’t pay attention to your own professional development you’ll loose job.

There are some other roles for the teacher too. For example, during the lesson teacher acts as



  1. An informant.

  2. A conductor of the lesson: explains the rules, gives examples, handle aids, gives instructions, monitor pair and group work etc.

  3. A corrector of errors

  4. Motivator

  5. Elicit students’ knowledge and skills, abilities etc.

  6. Praiser active students, their success in learning a foreign language etc

There are three types of a teacher

  1. Authoritarian – has total control of the classroom activities. (has negative meaning)

  2. Authoritative – a teacher who has a competence and imposing respect.

  3. Facilitative – (ko’mak beradigan) a teacher who facilitates the classroom activities and who is supportive, helpful.
