Uzbekistan and the United Nations.

On March 2, 1992, the Republic of Uzbekistan was admitted to the UN, becoming an equal member of the world community. The proposals of the head of our state, I.A.Karimov, voiced from the UN rostrum on strengthening peace and harmony, the need to promote socio-economic development, and prevent further proliferation of nuclear weapons were approved and warmly supported by the General world community. In the first speech of the President of the Republic Of Uzbekistan At the 48th session of the UN General Assembly (September 28, 1993), important issues were raised, in particular, it was proposed to declare Central Asia a nuclear-weapon-free zone, and to create a special UN Commission on the problems of the Aral sea. In October 1993, the UN office in Tashkent started its work. In September 1995, at the initiative of Uzbekistan and with the direct support of the UN, a seminar on security and cooperation in Central Asia was held in Tashkent. On October 24, 1995, in New York at the 50th anniversary celebrations of the United Nations, I.A.Karimov said that the key of resolving tensions in Afghanistan lies in preventing external interference in the internal Affairs of this state. In 2000, at the 55th session of the UN General Assembly, the "Millennium Summit", I.A.Karimov supported the adoption of a program of measures to increase the role and importance of the UN in solving regional and global problems and noted the need to include Germany and Japan in the United Nations Flag. He also suggested expanding the powers of the UN Secretary-General to improve the speed of decision-making on global and regional threats. At the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan in 2001, a special Committee on combating terrorism was established under the UN Security Council. In 2010, in a speech at the 65th session of the UN General Assembly, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan I. A. Karimov again drew attention to ways to solve complex problems in Central Asia. Visits to Uzbekistan by the UN Secretary-General K.Annan (October 2002), UN Secretary-General ban Ki-moon (April 2010) testifies to the strengthening of the role of our state in the international community, increasing its authority. In June 2017, UN Secretary-General A.Guterres paid a visit to Uzbekistan, meeting with President Sh.M.Mirziyoyev in Samarkand. After visiting the grave of the first President of the Republic of Uzbekistan I. A. Karimov, Guterres got acquainted with the situation in the Aral Sea region. Uzbekistan has established comprehensive relations with a number of UN specialized agencies, the World Bank, the International monetary Fund (IMF), the world trade organization (WTO), and the UN economic Commission for Europe (ECE), with a group of the UN Commission on trade and development. The Republic of Uzbekistan is also a member of special UN agencies – the world health organization, the International labor organization, the International children's Fund (UNICEF), the International Olympic Committee, the International Union of motorists and other organizations.

On September 19, 2017, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh.M.Mirziyoyev delivered a speech at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, emphasizing the need to develop an International Convention on the rights of youth and adopt a special resolution "Education and religious tolerance" by the General Assembly. He also drew attention to the issues of rational use of water resources in Central Asia, the problem of drying up the Aral Sea, the establishment of good-neighborly relations with neighboring countries, and peaceful ways to establish peace in Afghanistan.
