Uzbekistan's cooperation with Central Asian countries.
One of the leading directions of Uzbekistan's foreign policy is to strengthen friendship and cooperation with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. The common history, culture, language, religion, and common roots serve as the basis for further rapprochement of the people of these countries.
Socio-political processes in the new historical conditions required a different view of the origin, history, peculiar way of life and good-neighborly relations of the people of the Central Asian countries. In January 1993, at the initiative of the first President of the country, Islam Karimov, a meeting of the heads of Central Asian States was organized in Tashkent. This summit laid the Foundation for the Central Asian Commonwealth, which was signed by the leaders of five countries-Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan – and the Peoples of the region accepted it with great satisfaction. The leaders of the Central Asian countries held meetings on the problems of the Aral sea in 1993 in the city of Kyzyl Orda (Kazakhstan), in 1994 in Nukus, in 1995 in Tashauz (Turkmenistan), in 1995 again in Nukus and began to implement practical work in this direction. In 1999, a meeting of The international Fund for saving the Aral sea was held in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan). The meeting discussed the development of cooperation in terms of stabilizing the situation in the region of environmental disaster. The heads of state exchanged views on issues of mutual cooperation, regional security and other important international issues. In 2017, at the initiative of Sh.Mirziyoyev, a new era began in relations of Uzbekistan with neighboring countries. In the same year, the President of Uzbekistan paid official visits to Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan, and in March 2018, he held a high-level meeting in Tajikistan. In 2017, a meeting on the theme "Central Asia: cooperation on the path of a common history and common future, stable development and progress" was held in Samarkand with the support of the UN. The event was attended by 500 representatives of foreign countries. Uzbekistan – Kazakhstan. The bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan were strengthened on the basis of the Treaty of friendship and cooperation signed in Turkestan by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The presidents of the two countries signed an agreement providing for the free movement of goods, services, investment and labor between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, as well as ensuring mutually agreed loans, settlements, budget, taxes, prices, customs and currency policy.
In October 1998, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan signed an agreement on eternal friendship. In 2000, the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan met in Tashkent to establish the exact borders of the two States. As a result of the negotiations, a joint statement was signed. In 2001, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan I. A. Karimov paid an official visit to Kazakhstan. The presidents of the two countries signed an agreement on the state border. 96% of Uzbekistan's borders with Kazakhstan, with a length of 2,440 km, were clearly marked, and an agreement was reached to establish the rest of the borders on the basis of delimitation. In 2002, the President of Uzbekistan paid a visit to Astana, where an agreement on certain sections of the state borders was signed. Kazakhstan is one of the most important partners for Uzbekistan in Central Asia, so the Agreement on strategic partnership signed in 2013 between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan. In June 2017, on the occasion of the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana, President Sh.M. Mirziyoyev visited Kazakhstan. In September 2017, President of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev arrived on an official visit to Uzbekistan. Following the meeting of the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, a number of important documents were signed. Sh.M.Mirziyoyev presented N. Nazarbayev with the order "El-Yurt khurmati".
