D.1.1 - Aims and activities of the organisation

POLIS University (U_POLIS) is young, yet ambitious institution, quality research-led university, supporting a focused range of core disciplines in the field of architecture, urban planning, design and environmental management. U_POLIS has signed the Bologna’s Magna Charta Universitatum and has several affiliations and partnerships including the EAAE, AESOP, ECLAS, several universities of the EU, a joint Master Degree Diploma with IHS/ Erasmus Rotterdam and a joint PhD Program with Ferrara University in Italy. The university is comprised of a Research and Development Institute (POLIS IKZH) and two faculties, namely the Faculty of Architecture and Design- FAD, the Faculty of Planning, Environment and Urban Management-FPMMU. Through applied and scientific research POLIS develops and promotes “scientific excellence and innovation” (Scientific journal Forum A+P, Habitat Magazine and MAD magazine). The Research and Development Institute– POLIS IKZH with Co-PLAN, Institute for Habitat Development as a constituent part, together with the research units of the faculties, Sustainability_LAB and MAD_Centre conduct and deliver quality research with a particular focus on the Albanian, and regional context acting also as a regional hub in the Western Balkans for students, academics and national and international professionals. Given the pool of resources it has, U_POLIS can confidently enter into partnerships be it of a national and international nature, and ensure the successful implementation of projects. In fact, U_POLIS has been participating in the last years to several national and international projects, including Tempus projects for which is also the first and only Albanian HEI up to now with the role of the grantholder.
